In Hebrews 8, we see that Jesus is not ministering in the shadow, but in the true heavenly reality as our High Priest and Mediator of a better covenant. This teaching shows how the old covenant revealed the problem, but the new covenant answers it through better promises, inward transformation, mercy, forgiveness, and personal knowledge of God. A performance-based relationship with God under law-minded thinking has been replaced with the covenant security we now have in Christ. God’s answer was not merely another command, but a new covenant: “I will put My laws in their mind,” “I will write them on their hearts,” and “their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more.
